Although we are registered to take 25 children per day, we have at present chosen to work with 20. To meet our registration requirements we have a staff to child ratio of 1:4 for the two year olds and 1:8 for those aged 3 and above. At least half of the staff must have relevant qualifications for working with this age group; the ideal qualification being the Diploma Childcare and Education (NNEB, DCE, ACD all of which are 2 years full time training), or NVQ level 3 in Childcare and Education. All full time staff attend a minimum of four training events a year. Only the training that is most essential to their role within the nursery, or training attended within the last year is logged below. Staff Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks
All of our staff including the chef, have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check carried out before they are left unsupervised with the children. Whilst some of our staff hold current CRB checks from previous employment, we always apply for an updated enhanced CRB check. Additionally, as part of our recruitment process we take a minimum of two written references and verify these over the telephone with the referees. Our staff are contractually required to inform us of any situations which may arise in our employment which might change their criminal record status and sign an annual disclaimer to say that they are still eligible to work with young children and have a clear criminal record.
